Toyohari is
Japanese Acupuncture, a powerful yet gentle therapeutic system for both
preventing disease and maintaining health.
Toyohari differs from most other forms of acupuncture in that it
uses gentle yet effective treatment methods, placing great emphasis on
diagnosis using pulse and palpation skills.
Toyohari needling is "contact needling", where a silver filament
(needle) or probe is held over the skin without touching
it. No discomfort is experienced.
Common complaints such as headaches, arthritis and neuralgia are
readily treatable, as well as disorders of the internal organs such as
the liver, heart, kidneys and pancreas. Toyohari treatment is also
effective for fevers and coughs; eye, ear, nose and skin afflictions;
bruises, sprains and children’s disorders.
Children from birth to the age of 10 can be successfully treated
with Toyohari Acupuncture. This non-invasive method of stroking with
specific instruments is not only soothing but enables very quick
healing in children.
The theoretical basis of Toyohari is concerned with regulating an
individual’s life force and body energy – the movement of
blood and energy in the body which is key to good health. The Chinese
and Japanese realised many centuries ago that disease is mostly the
result of wrong living and lack of concern with bettering health. Their
philosophy is that we choose and create our own illnesses through bad
eating, lack of exercise, not living in the seasonal environment
appropriately, emotional distress and through over-work. The
Acupuncture Way is to live harmoniously so that disease is prevented in
the first place.
The Toyohari Medical Association was founded in Japan in 1959 by
Koko Fukushima, a well-known blind acupuncturist (many Japanese
acupuncturists are blind). Toyohari evolved out of earlier developments
in meridian therapy in the 1930s and 1940s. However, its theoretical
foundation is rooted in Chinese classical acupuncture texts which are
over 2000 years old - the medical classics: Nei Jing, SuWen, Ling Shu
and primarily the Nan Jing.
What is a treatment like? How many treatments will I
need?
Treatment is holistic and begins with careful assessment of the
client's whole system using diagnoses based on the pulse, gentle
palpation of the abdomen, the sensitivity of acupuncture points and
assessment of areas of the neck, lower leg or forearm.
Major weaknesses or imbalances are identified and treated (the Root
Treatment). If the Root Treatment is insufficient to correct symptoms,
“Symptomatic Treatment” is performed. Improvement in health
from the Root Treatment enhances the effectiveness of Symptomatic
Treatment.
After a treatment, one can feel calm and relaxed – this is a
sign that the treatment has been effective. The efficacy of results
depends upon the severity of the condition with the quickest results
being achieved when symptoms first occur.
A course normally consists of 4 to 10 weekly treatments after which
the client's condition is reassessed. If things have stabilised and the
condition has improved, the sessions are spaced out. The client may
only need a treatment once every 4-8 weeks for continued health
maintenance.
Paediatric Japanese Acupuncture also known as Shonishin, is a form of East Asian medicine which has been
helping children feel better for thousands of years. As a health care
alternative for children, Shonishin is effective both as preventative
care and in treating acute and chronic conditions. It is safe,
drug-free, holistic and curative.
Shonishinaddresses the need for safe, specialized,
non-insertion acupuncture therapy techniques for infants and children.
Shonishin involves delicate massage applied to acupuncture channel
lines using specialised Japanese paediatric tools designed to stimulate
acupuncture points, bring qi to the surface and move it along the
channels. Shonishin treatment can be performed in 10 to 20 minutes
depending on the age of the child and severity of the illness. Even the
most reticent and guarded child will find Shonishin a relaxing and
enjoyable experience.
Shonishin is an effective treatment for a range of common paediatric
conditions including:
Following Shonishin treatment, it is quite common for the child to show
marked improvement in other aspects of their daily lives. It has been
noted that a child's spirit, happiness, energy, and vitality blossom.
In this way, Shonishin or Japanese Paediatric Acupuncture can be
beneficial for easing children though the many changes they have to go
through in their lives.
“My 17 year old son had a terrible rash on his hands and
torso for months. After just one treatment from Nina, the rash had
visibly improved and after two more treatments, had disappeared
completely. His confidence has returned and now the embarrassing months
are just a bad dream.”Anne
